Traditionally, trainers worked in-person with their clients, whether they were at a gym, client’s home, or a public space (like a park). Remote training has been around a while, but in recent years the technology has moved by leaps and bounds, making it so that our clients are now able to work productively with a personal trainer without all of the overhead that used to be necessary! It also makes it much easier to manage your time by doing any or all of the activities on your own schedule. How does it work? No matter how you train, there are a few core tasks involved. You and your trainer can do any or all of these different things through virtual meetings (Google Meet, Zoom, etc). But to make it even easier, every single one of these activities is possible “offline”, so you can handle things whenever your schedule permits. You and your trainer will determine which activities will work best for you in real time, and which can be handled offline.
Remote training has become our preferred training format for many reasons:
It’s highly cost-effective! The overhead costs are lower for you and for us, which means we are able to offer lower rates for this format.
It’s incredibly time-effective! Less stress on your schedule, because training activities can happen at pretty much any time or place that is convenient for you!
It reduces the impact of some of the “out of your control” factors that can disrupt in-person workouts, like bad weather, bad traffic, or your car/train/bus/other breaking down.
It opens up so many more options for everyone! When you choose a trainer, you are no longer limited by distance. You have access to trainers anywhere in the world, which means you have a much better chance to find someone who best matches your needs. And you can still work with that trainer while traveling, or even if you move out of the area.
And really, the biggest reason for us:
Physically going to a gym is not the best option for everyone (and sometimes it’s not an option at all). We want everyone to have access to our fitness experts (in whatever form that takes for each client), and being able to work remotely with trainers makes that an option.
We are all different, and there is no model that will be best for everyone. Trainers can more easily watch you from multiple angles when they are in-person, which may improve their ability to give feedback on your form, but that also means you have to be physically in-person, which is not always possible. Bigger gyms will likely have the largest variety of equipment, but if you aren’t using it, it’s not really a benefit to you. Some folks enjoy the social atmosphere that generally comes with bigger gyms, but it may also come with wait-times. When it comes down to it, there are pros and cons with every format, and each one may be more or less impactful to you, but with so many ways to handle your training, you and your trainer should be able to determine the ideal structure for you (even if it’s not with us)!
